Collection Rochas, Le bestiaire rêvé

PARIS | 15 SEPTEMBER

Discover the Collection of François Rochas at Sotheby’s Paris, a remarkable collection of more than 130 works from the Rochas family’s Parisian apartment in the 7th arrondissement.

Opening Sotheby’s autumn season in Paris, the sale brings together an exceptional group of 20th-century decorative arts, led by a distinguished ensemble of works by Diego Giacometti. Acquired directly from the artist in the 1980s and offered at auction for the first time, these patinated bronzes and animal-inspired designs are at the heart of a collection shaped by a lifelong passion for art, nature and design.

The son of Hélène and Marcel Rochas, François Rochas grew up surrounded by the worlds of haute couture, art and Parisian society. His mother, Hélène Rochas, was renowned for her sophisticated taste and her close connections to the international artistic and cultural world. Together with his wife Carole, François Rochas went on to create a highly personal collection in which art and objects became part of everyday life.

Inspired by fauna and flora, the collection brings together celebrated artists including Diego Giacometti, Claude Lalanne, François-Xavier Lalanne, Édouard-Marcel Sandoz, Gustave Hierholzer and Chana Orloff. Birds, felines and fish populate this imaginative interior bestiary, creating a poetic dialogue between sculpture, design and the decorative arts.

Explore the Collection of François Rochas at Sotheby’s Paris and discover a unique vision of 20th-century art and design, shaped by creativity, connoisseurship and an extraordinary Parisian heritage.
