Inside the Studio of a Sotheby’s Employee Turned Artist: In the Studio with Larry Bentley

New York | 21 August 2026

L arry Bentley spent years surrounded by art, first at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and now as part of Client Services at Sotheby’s, often walking through the galleries and wondering, “Maybe I could do that.”

Six years ago, he picked up a paintbrush for the first time. He hasn’t stopped since. Inspired by architecture, mid-century modernism, color and geometry, Larry has created roughly 200 paintings and is among more than 50 Sotheby’s employees featured in this year’s employee art selling exhibition: The Artists Among Us, open from 21-28 August.

Step inside Larry’s creative process and discover the life, and the artist, beyond his work at Sotheby’s.
