S otheby’s is pleased to present the New York Important Watches sale, available for online bidding from June 15th through June 24th. This sale has a wonderful selection of rare vintage and modern timepieces as well as desirable pocket watches and clocks. Of particular interest are a pair of vintage Rolex Daytona’s, both fresh to the market and exceptionally rare in both configuration and condition. One of which, a Rolex Daytona reference 6263 with Paul Newman ‘Panda’ dial, is one of the most iconic and desirable of all the Daytona’s. The second is a striking, important and possibly unique ‘Transitional’ reference 6238 Daytona retailed by the world’s distinguished luxury retailer ‘Tiffany & Co’. In their own rights, these are two incredibly rare and important watches, only enhanced further by the fact that they are both consigned from their original purchasers and have never being offered for sale previously.
Other highlights include an iconic ‘Double Swiss Underlined’ Rolex reference 6239 Daytona, alongside a pair of ‘full set’ contemporary Daytona’s referenced 116520 and 116521 presented by Rolex to racing driver Chris Bingham in 2001 and 2002 for winning the ‘Daytona Prototypes Grand-Am Series'. Furthermore, we have a wide selection of contemporary pieces from independent brands such as Richard Mille and FP Journe, complimented by pieces from the world’s most important and historic artisans such as Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.

In the mid 1950’s, Tiffany joined a select group of retailers worldwide given the privilege of printing their logo on the dial of Rolex’s most prestigious models; the exact number of Tiffany dialed Rolex’s from this era is unknown, but they are undoubtedly extremely rare, and represent some of the most sought after, desirable and iconic watches to ever come to market. This particular piece, consigned by the family of the original purchaser, bears the reference number 6238 and has the matching case back stamping of 6238; the 14K stamp and hallmarks remain clear and sharp. The present watch is fresh to the market, and has been found in exceptionally crisp and original condition.
