otheby’s Important Design sale presents a curated survey of Design from the last century, ranging from notable examples of Art Deco to Post-War and Contemporary Design. Included in the sale is a selection of works by Les Lalanne, led by François-Xavier Lalanne’s Grand Rhinocrétaire II and Claude Lalanne’s Pomme de Jardin. Another highlight of the sale is an important seating group by Jean Royère, including an Ours Polaire sofa and armchair, as well as a Sculpture armchair.
The sale is further anchored by two single-owner collections: Intersections of Design: Property from an Important New York Collection which includes furniture and objects ranging from French mid-century works by Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand, to an impressive range of Scandinavian works and bold contemporary design. Masterpieces by Emile Gallé, Gabriel Argy-Rousseau and Edgar Brandt are part of the collection of Ann and Robert Fromer, including a rare `Wisteria’ table lamp by Gallé.
A rare and important print table from Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio and an Important Pair of Spindle Barrel Armchairs from the Darwin D. Martin House in Buffalo are offered as part of a curated selection of Arts & Crafts pieces.
Rounding out the sale is a selection of contemporary design, including a monumental bookcase by Ron Arad `Oh, the Farmer and the Cowman Should be Friends’ and a pair of rare Franz West `Clubfauteuil’ chairs.
Property will be on view in Sotheby’s New York galleries from June 6-11, 2025.
