ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
R esistance fighter, spy, historian, writer, art dealer… Daniel Cordier lived a thousand lives. This spring, Sotheby’s is honoured to present Daniel Cordier, Collection privée, a group of over 200 lots that reveal the story behind Daniel Cordier’s collection. The sale will feature some of his favourite and most prized possessions, kept in his private home until the end of his life. From Nevelson and Duchamp, to Ossorio, Dado and Gabritchevsky, this online event presents a unique opportunity to rediscover the artists Cordier spent a lifetime defending, representing and admiring.
A Selection of Daniel Cordier's African and Oceanian Artefacts
For Daniel Cordier, the arts of Africa and Oceania echoed a distant world and acted as guardians of the mysteries of humanity itself. In the privacy of his Cannes home, these works contrasted with his typical taste: artists such as Dado, Dewasne, Dubuffet and Matta, whose exposure to a wider public was a point of honour for Cordier. Through these Polynesian objects, Papuan and Ifugao necklaces, clubs from the Solomon Islands, Dan masks, large Moba and Yoruba statues, among many others, Daniel Cordier takes us on a journey through his universe, moving to the rhythm of his dreams and passions.
