S otheby’s 20th Century Art/Middle East October 2021 auction is a fresh, tightly curated sale with a focus on quality and stellar provenance. It features a stunning selection of works from the most sought after artists from the modern era to the contemporary period.

We are thrilled to present a carefully selected and diverse cohort of masterworks from the region, including works by formidable Iranian Masters, powerful artistic voices from North Africa such as Farid Belkahia, Baya and Egyptian artists, Gazbia Sirry and Salah Taher. We also present a strong selection of Lebanese modernists, in particular, powerful and rare works by Etel Adnan and Huguette Caland. Within this exciting and diverse offering we are delighted to be including two works by artist Douglas Abdel for the first time at auction.

Lebanese Female Artists

Sotheby’s is honored to be including works by the two greatest Lebanese Female Artists – Etel Adnan and Hugette Caland. Both, avant garde in their practice where they embraced a feminine yet impactful and bold identity in their oeuvre.

Abstraction is central in both their art works, alongside sharing a Lebanese background, California and Paris played a huge role in their artistic practice.

Iranian Modern Masters

Sotheby's continue to be leaders in the market for Iranian modern art. We are proud to present a beautiful group of important works by artists including, Bahman Mohassess, Marcos Grigorian, Charles Hossein Zenderoudi, Massoud Arabshahi, Leyly Matine-Daftary, Parviz Tanavoli, Sirak Melkonian, Mansour Ghandriz and Mohsen Vaziri Moghaddam.
