The Gorgeous Nothings: Flowers at Chatsworth at the Story Café
We are delighted to announce the reopening of the Story Café, now beautifully refurbished and reimagined as a place where art meets coffee. Nestled in the heart of Mayfair, our café offers a tranquil oasis where guests can explore the stories of art and culture while enjoying coffee in an inspiring setting. To celebrate the reopening and our partnership with Chatsworth and their newest exhibition, The Gorgeous Nothings: Flowers at Chatsworth, Sotheby’s Story Café has been transformed into a captivating experience that delves into The Devonshire Collections, Chatsworth’s rich archive of botany, exploring the beauty and symbolism of the natural world through flowers in all their forms.
The installation reflects the spirit of Sotheby’s Summer Season - a time when the art world descends into London and our galleries are transformed into a vibrant cultural hub and epicentre for the art world, where music, theatre and the visual arts converge. At the heart of this moment, flowers take centre stage, evoking the fragility, resilience and timeless wonder found in art.
Curated by Allegra Pesenti and designed by Pippa Nissen from Nissen Richards Studio, The Gorgeous Nothings: Flowers at Chatsworth, is inspired by the estate itself, from the rare botanical volumes and illustrated manuscripts in the library to its garden and grounds and features historical and contemporary works of art from the Devonshire Collections, supported by key loans from national and international museums, and new artist commissions.
Chatsworth House Trust is a registered charity established in 1981 to look after the house, collections, garden and parkland for everyone. Find out more about The Gorgeous Nothings and the events on offer at: chatsworth.org/thegorgeousnothings
