The present table is distinguished by its elegant proportions and the finely carved chilong motifs adorning the aprons.
Compare a similar huanghuali square table, the apron also carved with scrolling dragons, illustrated in Sarah Handler, Ming Furniture in the Light of Chinese Architecture, Berkeley and Toronto, 2005, p. 167. Another closely related example, dated to the late Ming dynasty, from the Compagnie de la Chine et des Indes Collection, Paris, is published in Michel Beurdeley, Chinese Furniture, Tokyo and New York, 1979, pl. 126.
For a huanghuali square table of similar proportions, carved on the aprons with dragons and archaistic scrolls, see an example in the Qing Court Collection, dated to the Qianlong period, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (II), Hong Kong, 2002, pl. 86. See also a further related huanghuali square table carved with chilong on the aprons, sold at Christie's New York, 25th September 2020, lot 1646.
Sarah Handler,《Ming Furniture in the Light of Chinese Architecture》,伯克利及多倫多,2005年,頁167。
