The collector seal Jiangdu Shishi Cangshu refers to Shi Yinmei (1889–1954), a Jiangdu native, was a noted guqin and guzheng musician whose work was detailed in the 1937 publication Jinyu Qinkan. According to the record, at the age of 48 and residing at No. 83 Dadongmen in Yangzhou, he held high proficiency in his field. A pupil of the qin master Huang Mianzhi (1853 - 1919), Shi's personal collection boasted a Yuan dynasty guqin by Zhu Zhiyuan, along with music scores such as Ziyuantang Qinpu, Jiao'an Qinpu, Chuncaotang Qinpu, Qinxue Rumen, and Wuzhizhai Qinpu. His talent extended beyond playing, as he was adept at arranging music for a variety of traditional instruments including the fenting, pipa, and ling sheng. The present lot might indeed be the one referenced in the Jinyu Qinkan.

The Wuzhizhai Qinpu was compiled by the early Qing guqin master Xu Qi, who completed the manuscript in the 60th year of the Kangxi reign (1721). It was subsequently published by Zhou Lufeng in the 2nd year of the Yongzheng reign (1724). Comprising eight volumes and featuring thirty-three melodies, the work is renowned for its precise fingering notation and exceptional printing quality, which led to its wide circulation throughout the Qing dynasty.

The present lot is a reprint produced by the Hongxing Shanfang (Red Apricot Studio) in the 2nd year of the Qianlong reign (1737). The text is formatted with eight lines per half-page, featuring black-lined columns and single fishtail margin marks
