Description

rectangular with cut corners, the lid and base engine-turned with alternating moiré and reeded bands creating the effect of two-coloured gold, framed with chased leaf and ovolo borders on a sablé ground, the sides and base similarly decorated, the interior of the lid later engraved with an inscription reading: Beatchen 19.5.31, maker's mark crowned S and V in an oval, flowerhead mark, the front rim with initials FW in a rectangle,
