Description

Octagonal, the lid painted en plein with a detail taken from the engraving Rest On Flight Into Egypt, by Stefano Tofanelli (1787, published by Giovanni Volpato) after the painting by Nicolas Poussin, on clouds against a black background, on a sablé gold ground and opaque white enamel borders, the sides and base decorated in similar colours, maker’s mark within two further marks, the base with sundial and three sprigs, right rim numbered 6032, later dog’s head control mark


length 9.1 cm; 3 ½ in.
