Description

rectangular with cut corners, the lid painted en plein with a lozenge-shaped cartouche of a woman tending to her child and stroking a lamb, perhaps a version of the classical allegory of sacrifice and innocence, against a custard-coloured sky, on an unusual background of opaque cornflower blue enamel around gold clubs, flanked by wide enamel bands, the sides and base similarly decorated, maker's mark, two smaller marks, the base with sunray mark within three sprigs, the right rim numbered 4659,
