oval, the lid painted en plein with a rustic scene of a village festival, four figures drinking and discussing in the foreground with a dog by their feet, within a chased volute and bead border, the sides and base similarly decorated with slightly undulating bands of ovals within scrolls alternating with finer wavy borders on a polished gold ground, apparently unmarked apart from later French hibou control mark,
