the first, by Alexandre-Jean-Marie Leferre, rectangular, the lid centred with a circular cartouche engraved with the initials ADR over interlaced initials RR, on a reeded ground within polished borders, the sides and base similarly decorated, maker’s mark, Paris 3eme titre 1838-1847, the right rim numbered: 68

Length 3 ¼ in., 8.1 cm;

the second, by Louis-François Tronquoy, rectangular with waisted sides, the lid centred with a plain armorial cartouche within scrolls, all sides engine-turned with a pattern of small flowerheads and bands, applied scrolling thumbpiece, the interior of the lid engraved with a presentation inscription reading: 'Souvenir d’estime et d’amitié / de J. J. Rousseau', maker’s mark, Paris 3eme titre 1838-1847
