Commentary from the 1998 catalogue:
This spice container is the shape formed by hands cupped to hold a delicate or valuable object. It is composed of many thin leaves of silver in a pod to contain the spices. The leaves separate to insert or reveal the fresh spice. The container invites participants to grasp it and inhale the fragrance from up close, while parting from Shabbat's holiness.
