Property of a German Nobleman
A magnificent and rare gold and enamel collar of the Order of St Andrew the First Called, Pannasch and Keibel, St Petersburg, 1836
The collar chain in gold and enamels formed of twenty four medallion links of three alternating types and an additional singular medallion at the centre, each individually marked on reverse and including:
(i) black enamelled imperial double-headed eagles each with central red enamelled shield portraying St George and the Dragon (9)
(ii) blue enamelled Saltire Crosses of St Andrew lettered S A P R (Sanctus Andreas Patronus Russiae) in the angles over a red enamel ground(7)
(iii) trophies of arms bearing the cypher of Peter the Great and suspending green and white enamelled flags (7)
(iv) central medallion featuring the crucified St Andrew on a blue enamel Saltire Cross overlaying a black enamel imperial double-headed eagle, also lettered S A P R
each medallion fitted with gold eyelets and joined by oval ribbed links to form the collar, one double-headed eagle inscribed on the reverse 'Friedrich Carl / Prinz von Preussen', the main St Andrew medallion and loop struck WK for Keibel and with the Imperial Warrant, the other 23 medallions struck IP for Pannasch and dated, 56 standard
