Description
Vera Brittain
Testament of Youth. London: Gollancz, 1933
FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, 8vo, original wrappers, original dust-jacket and (very scarce) wraparound band, related ephemera laid in
Inscribed by the author to Dr. Ernest S. du Bray and dated 13 February 1940. Laid-in are a 1933 review of the book, a receipt for du Bray's original purchase of the book in 1934 from a London dealer (Frank Hollings) plus a newspaper clipping and a leaflet regarding Vera Brittain's visit to San Francisco in mid-February 1940, when du Bray presumably asked her to inscribe the book. Brittain served as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse; Du Bray served in Base Hospital 18. An excellent copy in near-fine dust-jacket with the original wraparound band and very scarce thus, still more in an inscribed state (there have been no such copies at auction since at least 1974).
