Description

Thomas Hardy

Moments of Vision. London: Macmillan, 1917

FIRST EDITION, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, 8vo, original wrappers, (supplied) dust-jacket, dust-jacket slightly soiled

Inscribed by the author to his fellow WW1 poet: "To John Galsworthy with every good wish, from Thomas Hardy. Dec. 1917." and with the recipient's bookplate to the front pastedown endpaper. The two titans were both too old for active service but made their feelings about the war clear in their poetry. Hardy inscribed two or three copies to his peers (Edmund Gosse and Sydney Cockerell among them) and one to his wife, but there have been none at auction for over 20 years. A very good copy in supplied dust-jacket.
