Jamie Reid

God Save the Queen, promotional poster for the release of the single by Virgin, 25 May 1977

poster (990 x 695mm.), framed, pin holes, minor creasing

Jamie Reid’s design for God Save the Queen continues the strategies he had announced with Anarchy in the UK – take the symbols of the establishment and turn them on their head: here the Union Jack again and the official Silver Jubilee portrait of the Queen by photographer Peter Grugeon (this is often wrongly attributed to Cecil Beaton).

This poster was originally owned by Sid Vicious.

Anne Beverley, mother of Sid Vicious; purchased from Phillips W2 1992
