stone: 14 by 19 1/2 in.; 35.6 by 49.5 cm.
framed: 21½ by 26½ in.; 54.6 by 67.3 cm.

Francesco Gatta, to whom we are grateful, has endorsed an attribution to Antonio Tempesta for the present lot and has suggested a date of circa 1615. This painting will be included in his forthcoming monograph on the Tempesta’s paintings, currently in preparation.

From whom acquired, for the settlement of debts, by J.A. Faucher, Los Angeles, 1922 (as Jacques Courtois);
Thence by descent to his daughters, Rita Faucher Roberge and Fernande Faucher Blankenship, Costa Mesa, by 1970 (as Jacques Courtois);
Thence by inheritance to the present owner.
