stone: 14 by 19 1/2 in.; 35.6 by 49.5 cm.  

framed: 21½ by 26½ in.; 54.6 by 67.3 cm. 

Please note the attribution for this lot is Antonio Tempesta. Francesco Gatta, to whom we are grateful, has endorsed an attribution to Antonio Tempesta for the present lot and has suggested a date of circa 1615. This painting will be included in his forthcoming monograph on the Tempesta’s paintings, currently in preparation.

By whose estate given to Remus Hansen, Quebec City, probably in 1894;
Aime Dion, Quebec City, by 1910;
From whom acquired, for the settlement of debts, by J.A. Faucher, Los Angeles, 1922 (as Jacques Courtois);
Thence by descent to his daughters, Rita Faucher Roberge and Fernande Faucher Blankenship, Costa Mesa, by 1970 (as Jacques Courtois);
Thence by inheritance to the present owner.
