This work has previously been endorsed by Carlo Volpe, Mina Gregori, and Ferdinando Bologna, who date the picture to circa 1540-5; circa 1546; and circa 1550 respectively. A variant in which Saint Joseph's hand is depicted in the upper right corner and the Madonna is barehearded was formerly in the Corsini Collection in Florence.
