Castellani | 黃金及紅玉髓手鏈


The hinged bangle designed as three bands bracketed by gold wire trim, each bisected by a carved carnelian scarab held within wirework bezels and swivel-mounted frames flanked by ribbed gold batons, the back composed of a band of similar design, gross weight 65 dwts, internal circumference 7 inches, signed with interlaced Cs; circa 1860.

Similar gold and scarab bangles by Castellani and Ernesto Pierret are illustrated in Munn, Castellani and Giuliano, Revivalist Jewelers of the 19th Century, pls. 17 and 188, respectively.  

The above-mentioned Castellani example, now in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, is also illustrated in the catalogue Castellani and Italian Archaeological Jewelry, The Bard Graduate Center, New York, November 2004 through February 2005, p. 74, fig. 2-82.
