A Royal Worcester majolica chinoiserie vase on a stand, circa 1875
1,000 - 1,500 GBP
A Royal Worcester majolica chinoiserie vase on a stand
of slightly compressed globular form, moulded with a sinuous dragon to one side on a body moulded in low relief with peony and tendrils in turquoise on a dark-blue ground, with a hexagonal stand in black, the stand with two impressed marks, the vase unmarked
11 in. high, 28 cm.
Overall of good appearance, with a small area of overpainting to the neck of the dragon, and some restoration to a V-shaped section of the rim to the left of the dragon’s head. The restoration is well done and would not need refreshing, some wear to the extremities of the stand. The pieces may have originally been joined by a bolt, which is now lacking.
