Jefferson accuses the former Vice President of treason
First edition. Jefferson accused former Vice President Aaron Burr—along with a host of co-conspirators—of treason. They were indicted for plotting to detach portions of the American West and South, as well as Spanish Texas, from the United States with the aim of creating their own empire. Burr was ultimately acquitted of treason, but the affair ended his already precarious political career.
