comprising 27 lines of verse in three stanzas of nine lines each, beginning "Its masts of might its souls so free / Had borne the scatheless keel...", title in pencil at head, marginal pencil gloss, 1 page, 4to, [1830s], traces of mounting at corners


Docketed in a contemporary hand in pencil "Written by Mr. John Ruskin | Christ Church | Oxford". Ruskin matriculated in October 1836, and devoted much of his time at Oxford to writing verse. He won the prestigious Newdigate Prize in 1839.
