Khmer, Banteay Srei style, late 10th century
his rounded face finely detailed with well defined sensuous lips, a triangular nose, small almond-shaped eyes below arched eyebrows, a third eye indicated vertically on his forehead, the hair pulled back into a high chignon behind an elaborately carved tiara, the sandstone with a rich dark grey patina

There may be some re touching above his left eye and lower part of the face and chin and and small repaired chip to the lower lip. Some plaster has been added to the lower part of the severed neck to better fit the stand. Otherwise the fragmentary head is in good condition with beautifully carved details and a fine age patina.
