A WHITE JADE FIGURE OF GUANYIN

QING DYNASTY, LATE 19TH / EARLY 20TH CENTURY 

清十九世紀末 / 二十世紀初 白玉雕觀音立像 《乾隆年製》仿款


standing on a circular lotus base wearing a dhoti and shawl and adorned with necklaces, armbands and bracelets, the proper right hand holding a jewel in front of the chest, the left hand positioned above it, the round face bowed slightly with the eyelids lowered, the hair pulled into a two-tier chignon surrounded by a diadem, a tall mandorla rising behind the figure and finely incised with scrolling and striated patterns, the reverse with a dedication to the goddess and an apocryphal Qianlong mark, the stone a creamy white color with icy inclusions
