QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD

清乾隆 青白玉雕羅漢圖山子


ovoid boulder carved in varying relief with a cavernous grotto sheltering the sixth luohan, Bodhidharma, seated on a mat with legs crossed under a loose robe, the left hand resting on the knee and holding a rosary, the face turned upward with a contemplative expression, amid craggy rocks and a gnarled tree, lingzhi sprigs sprouting at the reverse, the stone a very pale celadon with thin passages of russet skin
