Acquired by Dr. Herbert Kiel from the highly respected Michael Werner Gallery almost forty years ago, these two works, created in the late 1970s, brilliantly illustrate why Jörg Immendorff is considered to be one of the most important figures in 20th century German painting.

Like his contemporaries Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, Sigmar Polke and Anselm Kiefer, Immendorff's work is a product of Neo-Expressionism, marking a return to figuration, materiality and gestuality. But beyond this label, his highly detailed constructions reflect an intense commitment.

Wild, incisive, lucid, even disturbing for some, Ich Denke Auch an Metall and Stuhl der Zukunft not only highlight the extreme richness of Immendorff's work but also open our eyes to the world of the founder with A. R. Penck of the Alliance d'action RFA-RDA ("Action Alliance FRG-GDR"), working to raise awareness through uncompromising performances long before the fall of the Wall.

Deux œuvres historiques de Jörg Immendorff

Acquises par le Dr Herbert Kiel à la très respectée galerie Michael Werner il y a maintenant près d’une quarantaine d’années, ces deux œuvres réalisées à la fin des années 1970 illustrent avec brio la raison pour laquelle Jörg Immendorff est aujourd’hui considéré comme l’une des figures les plus importantes de la peinture allemande du XXe siècle.

Comme ses contemporains Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, Sigmar Polke et Anselm Kiefer, l’œuvre d’Immendorff procède du néo-expressionnisme marquant un retour à la figuration, la matérialité et la gestualité. Mais au-delà de cette étiquette, ses constructions riches d’un nombre impressionnant de détails traduisent une exigence et un engagement d’une rare intensité.

Sauvages, incisives, lucides, voire dérangeantes pour certains, Ich Denke Auch an Metall et Stuhl der Zukunft mettent non seulement en lumière l’extrême richesse de l’oeuvre d’Immendorff mais nous ouvrent les yeux sur le monde du fondateur avec A. R. Penck de l’Alliance d’action RFA-RDA œuvrant à éveiller les consciences du mur à travers des représentations sans concession bien avant la chute du Mur.
