Daniel Spoerri has the art of observing the elemental and capturing the banality of everyday life to bring it to the level of a work of art.
In 1960, while collecting pieces of scrap metal from his compatriot and friend Jean Tinguely, Daniel Spoerri came up with the idea of gluing them onto a support that he erected vertically, immortalizing a random composition that was not intended to be permanent. This was the birth of tableaux-pièges ("snare-pictures").
La table de Ben ("Ben's Table") is the result of a singular event organized by Spoerri in 1961, at the end of which the remains of a meal prepared by the artist were fixed to the table, which, once straightened, constitutes one of these famous trap paintings.
Beyond the founding gesture, La table de Ben is also a skillful blend of performative work, installation, collective work, conceptual sculpture and materialism, proving that Spoerri is one of the most visionary artists of his time.

Daniel Spoerri a l'art d'observer l’élémentaire et de capturer la banalité du quotidien pour le porter au rang d'œuvre d'art.
En 1960, alors qu’il collecte des morceaux de ferrailles chez son compatriote et ami Jean Tinguely, Daniel Spoerri a l’idée de les coller sur un support qu’il dresse à la verticale, immortalisant une composition aléatoire qui n’avait pas vocation à être pérenne. C’est la naissance des tableaux-pièges.
La table de Ben est le résultat d’une manifestation singulière organisée par Spoerri en 1961 et à l’issue de laquelle les restes d’un repas préparé par l’artiste furent fixés à la table qui, une fois redressée, constitue l’un de ces fameux tableaux-pièges.
Au-delà du geste fondateur, La table de Ben est aussi un savant mélange entre œuvre performative, installation, œuvre collective, sculpture conceptuelle et matiériste prouvant à quel point Spoerri est l’un des artistes les plus visionnaires de son époque.
