Gérard Deschamps

In 1960, five years after he has abandoned oil painting in favor of collages incorporating photos of objects, Gérard Deschamps met Hains and Villeglé. A few months later, he officially joined the group of the New Realists, bringing to light a work that is at once that of an archaeologist and a curator, depicting an era through poetic materialist canvases.

En 1960, alors qu’il a depuis déjà cinq ans abandonné la peinture à l'huile au profit de collages incorporant des photos d'objets, Gérard Deschamps rencontre Hains et Villeglé. Quelques mois plus tard, il intègre officiellement le groupe des Nouveaux Réalistes, mettant à jour une œuvre qui est à la fois celle d’un archéologue et d’un conservateur rendant compte d’une époque à travers de poétiques toiles matiériste.
