Oscars 2019: The Jewels They Wore

By Stephanie Sporn
Whether it was Charlize Theron’s Bulgari Serpenti necklace, Spike Lee’s Radio Raheem rings, or Lady Gaga’s 128.54-carat Tiffany & Co. diamond – once worn by Audrey Hepburn – big and bold was the indubitable theme of the 91st annual Academy Awards red carpet. With so many fabulous looks to choose from, we narrowed down our top 20, including one special timepiece you have the chance to own.

1. Bradley Cooper

Rarely does one get the chance to own an Oscars-worthy watch or jewel, let alone one worn by a Best Lead Actor nominee. Making its red carpet debut via Bradley Cooper's wrist was an IWC Big Pilot's Watch, currently being sold by Sotheby's in a special charity auction. Proceeds from the timepiece, which features a one-of-a kind engraving for the ceremony, will benefit the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation. The only thing that could make this purchase better? A personal letter from Cooper will accompany the watch.

2. Charlize Theron

The Dior Parfums ambassador paired her pastel gown by the French fashion house with a generous helping of Bulgari jewels, including the company’s iconic Serpenti design.

3. Regina King

Best Supporting Actress winner Regina King was radiant in custom Oscar de la Renta and diamonds by Chopard.

4. Lady Gaga

The A Star is Born actress can now add Oscar winner to her resume. Even as she delivered a jaw-dropping performance of “Shallow” alongside Bradley Cooper, we could not take our eyes off her Tiffany & Co. necklace, which featured the Tiffany Diamond, a 128.54-carat cushion-cut canary yellow diamond. First discovered in South Africa in 1877, this diamond was last worn publicly by Audrey Hepburn for a Breakfast at Tiffany's publicity shoot. Redesigned in 2012 to commemorate Tiffany & Co.’s 175 years of excellence in design, the necklace now features over 480 stones.

5. Rachel Weisz

The Favourite actress accessorized her Givenchy Couture ensemble with a striking Cartier headpiece from 1903.

6. Laura Dern

Laura Dern's Bordeaux ruched leather gown by Rodarte was the perfect canvas for the more than 115 carats worth of Harry Winston diamonds that she wore.

7. Laura Harrier

The BlacKkKlansman actress wore a Louis Vuitton gown by Nicolas Ghesquière with a Bulgari high jewelry gem-set necklace and bracelet.

8. Allison Janney

In a dramatic Pamella Roland gown, Allison Janney dazzled in jewels by Chopard, namely her necklace featuring 60 carats of heart-shaped rubies.

9. Maya Rudolph

“Not-host” Maya Rudolph was one of several stars to don colorful, one-of-a-kind earrings by Irene Neuwirth.

10. Sarah Paulson

Pink was the color of choice at the 2019 Oscars, and Sarah Paulson was one of the standouts in her Brandon Maxwell gown. Adding a touch of glamour to her look was Harry Winston's Guipure diamond necklace, paired with diamond studs, also by Winston.

11. Elaine Welteroth

Author, journalist and pre-Oscars co-host Elaine Welteroth wowed in a sky blue sequined gown by Greek designer Celia Kritharioti and deco diamond earrings by Hueb to match.

12. Amy Adams

Oscar nominee Amy Adams looked extra "sharp" in her Atelier Versace beaded gown and Cartier diamond necklace, which featured the maker's Paris Pyramid clip brooch, commissioned in 1935.

13. Helen Mirren

Dressed in Schiaparelli Haute Couture – and wearing the label’s signature Shocking Pink hue – Dame Helen Mirren accessorized with a suite of Harry Winston Cluster jewels.

14. Lisa Bonet

Coordinating with husband Jason Momoa in pink ensembles by the late Karl Lagerfeld, Lisa Bonet topped her look with Fernando Jorge’s Clarity earrings, a celebrity favorite.

15. Maria Menounos

The glowing Oscars pre-show co-host wore a Celia Kritharioti gown and Chopard jewelry, which complemented her gold butterfly hairpins.

16. Glenn Close

Just when you thought Glenn Close couldn't stun more than she did in her custom Sies Marjan metallic suit she wore to the 34th Independent Spirit Awards this weekend, the Oscar nominee shined again in a golden gown by Carolina Herrera and diamond fringe earrings by Cartier.

17. Angela Bassett

In her Reem Acra gown and Sutra jewels, Angela Bassett was a pretty-in-pink vision.

18. Marina de Tavira

Roma actress and nominee Marina de Tavira wore J. Mendel with Lorraine Schwartz statement earrings to the Oscars, which saw three wins for the history-making film.

19. Tonya Lewis Lee and Spike Lee

Although it's hard to top the originality of Spike Lee's accessories – custom Air Jordan 3s and Radio Raheem's "love" and "hate" rings, as seen in Do the Right Thing, – his wife, producer Tonya Lewis Lee, certainly rose to the occasion in diamond earrings and a drop necklace by Forevermark.

20. Constance Wu

The actress wore a marigold Atelier Versace gown, adorned with Swarovski crystals, and custom Atelier Swarovski Fine Jewelry.
