New York City Bartenders Share Their Favorite Cocktails to Enjoy at Home

I n honor of our auction, Prohibition in America | 100 Years, we invited four of our favorite NYC-based bartenders to mix us up their favorite cocktails, and have a chat over the bar. Below, watch them as they work their magic – then learn the recipe to replicate the drink yourself.

The Classic Old Fashioned

With Sother Teague of Amor y Amargo, East Village

The Classic Old Fashioned
1 bar spoon heavy syrup (2 sugar: 1 water)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 oz rye whiskey
Twist of lemon
Large lump of ice

Add syrup, bitters, whiskey and ice to a double rocks glass. Gently stir to combine. Express the oil from a lemon twist over the drink and place in the glass. Enjoy!

Pomegranate Passionfruit Margherita

Pomegranate Passionfruit Margherita
2oz tequila
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz pomegranate juice, preferably organic
1 oz passionfruit puree, preferably organic

Add ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and voilà.

The Mint Julep

The Mint Julep
2 oz Buffalo Trace bourbon
.25 oz demerara syrup
5-8 leaves of mint
Powdered sugar (optional)

Add 5-8 leaves of mint to your julep cup or whatever glassware you have on hand. Add demerara syrup and bourbon. Muddle enough to bruise the mint so the essential oils release and incorporate with bourbon and sugars. Add crushed ice halfway and give it a little stir. Top with more ice until you can build a mound over the rim of the cup by cupping your hand over the ice. Garnish with a lavish bouquet of mint and if you have powdered sugar, make it snow!

A Simple Sour for Sheltering in Place

A Simple Sour for Sheltering in Place
2 oz 100% agave blanco tequila, or you can substitute any spirit
3/4 oz lime or other citrus
3/4 oz maple syrup, or an alternate sweetener like agave syrup

Add all the ingredients to a shaker with ice. Shake, strain into a glass and enjoy.
