Showcasing innovations in the ink medium by artists from around the world, the recent Contemporary Ink Art sales achieved remarkable results. In Spring 2017, the Contemporary Ink Art sale concluded with great success with 97% sold by value. Over half of the sold lots achieved prices well beyond the high estimate.

Distinctive works by great masters of contemporary ink were actively sought-after, with all eight lots by Liu Dan was sold. Consistent international bidding throughout contributed to the vibrant atmosphere with a refreshing influx of new collectors. Two artist records were set for works by Wang Jiqian, one of the foremost pioneers of contemporary ink painting known for his impression of wrinkled paper and aerial perspective of landscape composition, and by He Huaishuo, renowned for his overtly poetic and emotionally expressive ink paintings.

Overall results confirm our team’s pioneering role in introducing contemporary ink art to the international marketplace and providing this innovative aesthetic category with extraordinary momentum among worldwide collectors.
