Biography
Graeme Thompson joined Sotheby’s in 2025 as Senior International Specialist for Jewelry, based in Dubai, bringing nearly 25 years of expertise in jewelry, diamonds, and gemstones. In this role, he leads the expansion of Sotheby’s Jewelry business in the Middle East, driving both sales and sourcing across the region.
With a distinguished career in the auction world, Graeme has held senior positions at leading auction houses, including Worldwide Head of Jewelry at Phillips and Director of Jewelry, Asia, at Bonhams. Having lived in Hong Kong for eight years, he possesses specialist knowledge of jadeite and has worked extensively across the UK, European, American, African and Asian markets. Most recently, he served as a director at LJ West UK Ltd, specializing in extremely rare coloured diamonds. Throughout his career, he has built successful international teams, led record-breaking sales, and advised collectors and connoisseurs on exceptional jewels.
An experienced auctioneer, Graeme has presided over major jewellery sales and high-profile charity auctions worldwide. Among his notable achievements, he consigned and brought to market Sensational Jewels from a Prominent Middle Eastern Collection and Treasures from Zambia, An Exceptional Emerald Collection, from a private collector, which combined, realized over US$16 million.
A certified Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America, Graeme’s deep market knowledge and global network make him a key figure in the jewelry industry. His expertise spans everything from sourcing diamonds, jewelry and rare gems to curating high-profile auctions, solidifying his reputation as a trusted advisor to clients worldwide.
