The Collection of Charmion von Wiegand
Sotheby’s is privileged to present two works formerly in the Collection of Charmion von Wiegand, an American journalist and painter who developed a deep and spiritually intimate friendship with Piet Mondrian in the waning years of the Dutch master’s life. Von Wiegand was also a dear friend of the present owner and she bequeathed both works to him upon her death in 1983. This auction marks their first appearance on the market since they entered von Wiegand’s collection more than a half century ago. See lots 40 and 41 .
