La Main

Signed Labisse. (lower right)

Gouache, brush and ink and pen and ink on paper

9 ⅝ by 7 ½ in. (24.4 by 19 cm)

Framed: 17 ⅝ by 15 ½ in. (44.8 by 39.4 cm)

Executed circa 1955.

The work is in very good condition. Executed on cream wove paper, which has been mounted at multiple places along its verso. The top edge is lightly deckled. The pigments are bright and well-preserved. There is very light, scattered staining to the sheet. There is a very light 1/2 inch scratch towards the lower-left corner. There is a handling crease toward the left edge. There are remnants of adhesive and patterned strips of fading to the sheet, possibly inherent to the artist's technique.
