Belle Époque and Beyond: Prints from the Collection of Barbara and Ira Lipman

S otheby’s is pleased to present Belle Époque and Beyond, a dedicated online auction of prints from the collection of the late American businessman and philanthropist Ira A. Lipman and his wife Barbara K. Lipman, which is open for bidding now through 23 November.

The Barbara and Ira Lipman Collection constitutes one of the finest and most comprehensive groups of Toulouse-Lautrec lithographs ever assembled in America. Highlighted by examples of the famed posters that have become icons of fin de siècle Parisian nightlife, including Le Divan Japonais (lot 1), La Troupe de Mademoiselle Églantine (lot 3), Aristide Bruant dans son cabaret (lot 5) and Jane Avril (lot 6), the collection is rounded out by superb examples of prints by Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Théophile Alexandre Steinlen, Alphonse Mucha, and Jacques Villon, artists whose work has become synonymous with Belle Époque Paris.
