Description

Diurnal. Use of Sarum

Sarisbiriensis jornalis sive diurnalis nuperrime exactissimeque revisi volumen pars vocari solita hyema[li]s ac estivalis pariter. (Paris: François Regnault, 3 September 1528)

16mo (81 x 50mm.), A-M8 a-y8 A-M8, printed in red and black throughout, colophon on M8v, woodcut device of Regnault on title-page and final verso, woodcut initials, twentieth-century olive leather by Potter & Sons, York, gilt lettering on spine, two clasps, occasional light damp-staining, first few leaves slightly frayed

A RARE SARUM LITURGY: the Diurnal survives in just one other edition, printed in 1512, also in Paris, surviving in just one copy (now in Lambeth Palace Library, STC 15861.7); presumably many more editions were printed but no longer survive. At the time, Regnault was the largest producer of liturgical books for the English market.
