4 volumes bound in 3 (volume 3 and the Miscellanea bound together), folio (316 x 192mm.), engraved frontispiece portrait of the author by Burghers after David Loggan in volumes 1 and 2, different engraved frontispiece portrait of the author by Burghers after Sonmans in volume 3, engraved device on each title-page (main title dated 1699, others dated 1695 and 1693), woodcut diagrams and illustrations, 3 engraved plates (2 folding), volume 3 with text in parallel Latin and Greek, contemporary calf with blind-ruled borders, occasional browning or staining, a few small wormholes, small rusthole in *A2 of Miscellanea, rebacked with corners repaired


A comprehensive edition of the mathematical works of John Wallis, Savilian Professor of Geometry at Oxford (1616-1703): volume I contains works on arithmetic and mechanics, volume II contains the writings on algebra, and volume III includes texts by Ptolemy, Porphyrius, Archimedes, Aristarchus and Pappus Alexandrinus, in the original Greek with Latin translations, and Wallis’s correspondence. The miscellaneous works include some grammatical and theological writings.
