London: [John Mayler for] John Wayland, 15 July 1539

4to (195 x 135mm.), PARALLEL TEXT IN ENGLISH AND LATIN, printed in red and black throughout, title within woodcut border [McKerrow & Ferguson 38], woodcut initials and illustrations, later binding retaining the panels of a contemporary London binding of blind-tooled calf, lacking 6 leaves (M1, M3, T4, X1, Ff3, SS2), some marginal repairs in first few quires with some loss to edges of title-page, annotations in quires Gg-Hh obscured with ink, some damp-staining, lacking two pairs of clasps

A REFORMED ENGLISH LITURGY, PRINTED SHORTLY AFTER CROMWELL'S APPOINTMENT AS VICEGERENT. The text was by John Hilsey, bishop of Rochester.

John Wayland was a printer, bookseller and scrivener; this work was printed for him by John Mayler, and is one of several editions printed in 1539.

The calendar contains some printed amendments, obscuring the dates for St Laurence and St Katherine. The binding decoration uses Oldham's roll tool HE.a(10), a heraldic roll, used in London throughout the sixteenth century.
