Description

Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus

Die Zauberflöte eine grosse Oper in zwey Aufzügen, fürs Clavier oder Pianoforte, von Wolffgang Amadeus Mozart [...Die Zauberflöte im Klavierauszuge...Zweytes Heft], [vocal score], Leipzig: in Commission der Breitkopfischen Musikhandlung, [1794]

2 volumes in one, oblong 4to (c. 26 x 29.5 cm), lacking frontispiece (as often), separate title for Act 2, comprising the 'Ouverture', 'Marsch' and 35 items, each paginated separately (the items are numbered at foot: "Mozarts Zauberflöte. No.1...[34]", no. 19 is misnumbered and 29 appears twice), type-set throughout, nineteenth-century half calf, ownership inscription ("...Malwina Kirchner, den 8ten October 1830"), manuscript labels to cover and spine

This edition of Die Zauberflöte was prepared as separate items and there is no pagination of the volume as a whole; in this it follows the competing first editions by Artaria and Kozeluch. An engraving by Rosmäsler is sometimes present, but not here: it is in the Hoboken copy, but not in Hirsch, iv 187, which also lacks the second title-page. In another Hirsch copy (iv 187a), the engraving is described as "inserted".
