Description
Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus
Grand Quintetto pour le Piano Forte Hautbois, Violon, Viola et Violoncelle...Arrangé...par C. F. G. Schwencke [arrangement of the wind serenade K. 361 (370a)] [parts], Hamburg: chez Jean Auguste Böhme, no date
complete parts, 18, 7, 8, 8, 8 pages, oblong 4to (piano part: c. 24 x 33cm; the other parts: 27.5 x 35cm), engraved throughout, remnant of bookseller's label to title, unbound, remnant of paper strip affixed to upper left-hand corner of title, title detached and without presumably originally conjoined (blank?) leaf, some browning
A fascinating and rare early edition. Mozart's great serenade for thirteen instruments, K. 361 (370a), was first published in its original form in 1803 (Vienna: Bureau d'Arts et d'Industrie), although arrangements of the work had also appeared a little earlier. The present arrangement by the Hamburg musician C. F. G. Schwencke (1767-1822) is for the eminently practical combination of piano, oboe, violin, viola and violoncello. RISM records no copies in Great Britain or in America.
