6 volumes, 4to (290 x 221mm.), engraved frontispiece portrait of Robert Boyle, engraved vignette to each title page, 24 plates on 16 pages, mostly folding, contemporary calf, red morocco gilt labels to spine, light foxing mainly to title pages,tear to gutter of frontispiece repaired with glue, vol II plate 5 torn at fold, vol III plate 2 with marginal tear, binding rebacked and restored


A six-volume set of Boyle's complete works. Robert Boyle (1627-1691) was a natural philosopher, chemist and physicist whose contributions to science included The Sceptical Chymist, a treatise that speculated the existence of corpuscles, diverging from atomic theory.
