Ercole d'Este, duke of Ferrara
Autograph letter signed ("el duca di Ferrara"), to the duke of Mantua, Ferrara, 2 November 1556
one page, 310 x 203mm., manuscript in brown ink on paper, with conjoint leaf with address panel and papered seal, light spotting, tear at head of fold; with a neat manuscript translation into English tipped in above the address panel
Ercole II d'Este (1508-1559), the son of Alfonso and Lucrezia Borgia, writes to the Duke of Mantua, the letter being carried by the conte di Gambara, replying to a letter from the duke in which he says he cannot come to the coast because of the weather, though Ercole assures him he can rely on his obedience in this and in all matters.
