Plaque Commemorating Steve McQueen Joining as Partner

Plaque (14 3/8 x 11 1/4 in.) commemorating Steve McQueen joining as partner in the First Artists Production Company Ltd. [With:] A concept drawing of the company logo, ink on paper, mounted to artist's board (overall: 9 x 9 in.).

The First Artists Production Company was founded in 1969 by three of Hollywood's biggest stars at the time, Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier, and Barbara Streisand. Likened to the formation of United Artists in 1919 by Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and D.W. Griffin, First Artists was designed to free stars of the corporate shackles of big studios, allowing the actors to have creative control over their projects. Steve McQueen was invited to join in 1971, as memorialized on the present plaque, and Dustin Hoffman in 1972. The company was sold in 1980 to Warner Bros.
