An account of the second tour undertaken by Cornelis de Bruijn, 1652–1726/7, the notable Dutch artist and traveller. Containing numerous very fine plain engraved plates, many large and folding, depicting local flora and fauna, landscapes, architecture, inscriptions, and indigenous inhabitants of the territories, and their local customs and costumes. His engravings of Persepolis were in particular extremely popular.
The number of plates in this edition seems to vary, cf. Lot 315, Sotheby's 17 October 2001 (273 plates), Lot 290, 2 December 1999 (272 plates), and Lot 470, 14 October 1999 (274 plates).
