The roll-tooled border depicting Apollo, Calliope, Terpsichore and Thalia is signed C.N., which is considered to be Conrad Neidel of Wittenberg (EBDB w000427), who died in 1568. Another binding with the same initials is recorded, with the date 1563.
2 parts in one volume, 8vo (155 x 98 mm). Italic type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: A-S8 T4 a-g8 h2 [2]A10 B-M8: 304 leaves (final leaf blank). Woodcut Aldine device on title-pages. (Occasional light foxing.)
binding: Contemporary blind-stamped pigskin with the letters ASK and the date 1562 stamped in black on upper cover (164 x 115 mm), manuscript title lettering at head of fore-edge with horizontal manuscript lines indicating the start and end of each section. (Binding slightly soiled.)
