Private collection, England, by 1947.

The same model used for this tronie is found in the painting of similar dimensions (21.5 x 16.5 cm.), in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden (inv. no. 1576), which bears a false signature and date: Rembrandt 1636.1 Dendrochronological analysis conducted by Prof. Dr. Peter Klein at the University of Hamburg has revealed an earliest felling date for this panel of 1625, concluding that it was most likely employed from a date of 1632 onwards.
