Description

E.E. Cummings

Tulips and Chimneys. New York: Thomas Seltzer, 1923

FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, 8vo, original boards, lacking dust-jacket, extremities slightly bumped

First edition, first printing of the author's first collection of poetry, inscribed by him: "For [Edward] Titus with the compliments of Cummings". The recipient was the American proprietor of the Black Manikin Press in Paris (a press whose published authors included D.H. Lawrence and Hart Crane). Titus later became editor of This Quarter, to which Cummings contributed. There have only been three inscribed copies at auction since 1985. A very good copy lacking the rare dust-jacket.
